The two debutants of the Indian T20 League 2022 faced off against each other for the 4th match of the tournament. The match took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was a nail biter going to last over of the match.
Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to field first. Lucknow started their innings shakily losing their skipper KL Rahul on the very first ball. Mohammed Shami was breathing fire with the new ball. He ran through the Lucknow top order and reduced them to 29 for 4 within 5 overs of the innings.

Deepak Hooda was joined by young Ayush Badoni at this stage. From here they staged a great fight back. Hooda scored 55 runs off 41 deliveries while Badoni scored 54 playing the same number of deliveries. With a little flourish from Krunal Panday at the end, Lucknow finished with 158 runs on the board from their 20 overs. The shaky start probably made them stop at a score 15-20 short of a winning total. Shami was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets from 4 overs conceding 25 runs.

Gujarat also looked shaky at the beginning of their innings. They lost two quick wickets at the beginning and were 15 for 2 in the third over. Dushmantha Chameera bowled a good opening spell picking up the two wickets. At this Hardik Pandya joined Matthew Wade at the crease and started to steady the ship of Gujarat. Pandya looked in a heavenly touch. Pandya looked at a heavenly touch at the beginning of the innings. However, he was dismissed by his own brother, Krunal Pandya in the 11th over of the innings.

Pandya walked back to the pavilion after scoring 33 runs off 28 deliveries. Rahul Tewatia and David Miller settled down and took the match deep waiting for the correct opportunity. The chance opened up for them when the inexperienced when hood and Bishnoi were kept on the attack for too long. 39 runs came from the 16th and 17th over and the course of the match changed. Miller was dismissed for 30 runs off 21 deliveries, but Tewatia kept his calm and stayed till the end. With a cameo from Abhinav Manohar  Gujarat won the match with 5 wickets in hand and two balls to spare. Tewatia stayed not out at 40 off 24 deliveries, while Manohar stayed unbeaten at 15 off 7 deliveries.
