‘Wapas se Mumbai lobby’- Fans react as Ajit Agarkar appointed as new chief selector by Indian Cricket Board
Ajit Agarkar, the former Indian fast bowler, has been appointed as the next head selector for the Indian team. Chetan Sharma had to step down recently as a result of his sting operation. Concerning Agarkar’s debut test, the Indian team for the 5-match T20I series against the West Indies is still to be announced. In such a case, the selection committee, led by him, will now choose the side for the T20 series.
In the Test format, Agarkar featured 26 times and bagged 58 wickets with an economy of 3.39. The 45-year-old has previously expressed interest in becoming chief selector, but he had two reservations. Indian Cricket Board has acknowledged his point. The Chief Selector’s compensation has now been enhanced. Instead of 1 crore INR, they would now receive 3 crore INR every year.
Ajit Agarkar career as a player
Despite his skill with the ball, Agarkar had some noteworthy moments with the bat. The highlight of his international batting career occurred in 2002 when he got a century against England at Lord’s. His name is currently on the Lord’s Honour Board as a result of this magnificent knock. He even broke the record for the quickest half-century in ODI history. In 2000, Agarkar scored an undefeated 67(27)* while batting at number eight against Zimbabwe.
He also smashed Australia’s bowler Dennis Lillee’s record for the fastest 50 wickets in ODIs. Lillee accomplished this extraordinary achievement in only 24 matches. However, in his 23rd ODI, Agarkar broke Lille’s record. The Indian pacer maintained the record for over a decade, but in 2009, Sri Lanka spinner Ajantha Mendis surpassed him in his 19th ODI.
According to the report, Ajit Agarkar was convinced to become the head selector in light of Team India’s impending significant event. He has also served as Mumbai’s head selector. He has prior experience in a similar circumstance. The Indian Cricket Board was also seeking a younger face at the moment. His T20 experience was also beneficial. However, it is unknown whether or not the income of Agarkar’s partner, the other four selectors, has been enhanced.

As a former pace bowler he needs to identify and bring some new fast bowlers to Team India. Pace bowling has always been the issue.

Good .. selectors must establish their own network of scouts – state wide, district wise – to cover all 650+ districts of india .. this network of scouts must be given good remuneration so that there is lesser corruption
