The recently concluded Netherlands vs South Africa game wasn’t just watched by these two teams. The Proteas fans wanted their teams to win and qualify for the semis. On the other hand, the Dutch, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi fans wanted the Orange Army. After all, the Netherlands wanted to create history while the two Asian sides wanted to have a chance at qualifying for the semis.
If South Africa had won, the two Asian teams in discussion might have been on the verge of getting knocked out. Also, they would have to hope for Zimbabwe to beat India. After the Netherlands win, South Africa has been knocked out of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. On the other hand, the Netherlands need Pakistan to win their ongoing game against Bangladesh to finish fourth in the Super 12 from Group Two. This would mean that the Dutch team would directly qualify for the 2024 20-20 World Cup.
Dutch skipper Scott Edwards spoke on the opportunity and said “Lost for words! It’s going to take a bit of time… we are sort of used to those conditions. It’s definitely up there – another big upset for the Netherlands in a World Cup! We were still playing for a spot in the next World Cup.” Talking about the ongoing game between Pakistan and Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Tigers have won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the team hasn’t been able to get going as they have lost four wickets and scored 104 in 15.2 overs.
Now, the team would look to score big in the slog overs. On the other hand, the 2009 winners would love to restrict their opposition for a low score and win their game. This win will not only benefit Pakistan but also the Netherlands.
