The Day-Night Test between India and Sri Lanka is taking place in Bengaluru. The fans have been allowed in the stadium for this match. The decision was taken after a steady decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country. Before this, matches were being held behind closed doors.

While this is a happy occasion for the fans and followers as they can watch live action again, this brings up an area of concern for the administrators. During India’s fielding on the second day of the test, as many as three fans made their way into what can be considered a security breach. One of the fans even managed to click a selfie with the star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli.

The incident occurred during the sixth over of Sri Lanka’s second innings. The play was interrupted at this stage as Kushal Mendis was hit by a delivery from Mohammad Shami. The batter was receiving treatment for his injury when the fans took the opportunity to meet their stars from up-close. However, given the COVID-19 norms, this was not needed.

The incident was not a one-off affair in India. A similar incident occurred during the first at Mohali. These incidents show that Virat’s lean phase with the bat has not affected the craze for him among Indian fans.

While Virat scored a 23 and a 13 in the two innings of the second test, his average in the longest format dropped below 50 for the first time since November 2017. He now averages 49.95. Notably, Kohli has not scored an international century for over two years now.
