Watch: Henry Nicholls gets out in the third Test against England in the most bizarre fashion
After losing the first two matches of the series, New Zealand is currently busy playing the third and final Test match against England. However, Day one of the Test match did not start properly for the Kiwis as they lost early wickets. Again, Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell batted well as they went unbeaten at the end of the day’s play with a score of 225 runs for five wickets.
Henry Nicholls spent a long time in the crease as he managed to score 19 runs in 99 balls. But, he got out in the most bizarre fashion. Even, the bowler, Jack Leach was surprised after getting his wicket. The English Cricket Board also shared the video of that incident on their Twitter account.

Speaking about the incident, it was the 56th over of New Zealand’s first innings when Henry Nicholls and Daryl Mitchell were batting together. At that moment, the Kiwis were struggling with a score of 123 runs by losing four wickets. It was the second ball of that over when he came down the track a half-volley delivery and punched it to straight drive with some power.
In the non-striker end, Daryl Mitchell tried to move away but did not have enough time as the ball hit his bat and went straight to Lees who was fielding at mid-off. England spinner, Jack Leach was in total shock as his teammates started to celebrate. During that period, former England batter Naseer Hussain was in commentary as he said: “He’s gone. How has it got there? How has it got there? Leach has no idea. Mitchell is at the non-striker’s end. He’s trying to get his bat out of the way, the umpire is diving out of the way and Lees is aware. Ahh! Mitchell’s middled it straight to mid-off. I cannot believe it, I really can’t,”
After the end of the day’s play, Leach also told to reporters that it was unlucky for Nicholls whereas lucky for him. Speaking about the match, New Zealand will look to add more runs to their tally in the second play as Daryl Mitchell (78* off 119 balls) and Tom Blundell (45* off 108 balls) are still on the crease and will start Day 2 proceedings.
