Watch: Joe Root uses Jack Leach’s head to shine the ball against Pakistan
The first Test match between England and Pakistan at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is currently underway. After England put in a masterclass batting performance to notch a gigantic 657-run total on the board, Pakistan batters are making sure they too make the most of the batting beauty laid out for them.
In pursuit of the first-innings total, Pakistan openers, Abdullah Shafique and Imam Ul-Haq notched a double-century partnership. The duo denied England of making early inroads as they added 225 runs for the first wicket.
Will Jacks, eventually, broke the partnership in the 66th over in the form of Shafique’s wicket. He amassed 114 runs in 121 balls, including 13 fours and 3 sixes.
On the other hand, Imam Ul Haq also showed his class with a stellar knock of 121 runs in 207 balls. At the time of writing, Pakistan have made 290 runs for the loss of three wickets in 81.2 overs.
Babar Azam is toiling hard in the middle, playing an unbeaten knock of 21 runs in 31 balls. England bowlers are finding it hard to pick wickets as there is little to no help from the surface.
Amidst that, Joe Root was seen opting for a unique method to shine the ball. Perhaps, you wouldn’t saw that ever on a cricket pitch. In a video that has gone viral on social media, Root was shining the ball on Jack Leach’s head.
As per the new rules, you cannot use saliva to shine the ball and, therefore, Leach took the cap off for Root to gently use the sweat with the ball.
