Watch: Lionel Messi’s mother rushes to join him post Argentina’s World Cup win

In the title clash of the FIFA World Cup 2022 between France and Argentina, both teams were looking for their third title. From the Lionel Messi-led side’s perspective, they were looking to win the title after 1986. On the other hand, the European side was looking to defend their title, having won it in 2018. Meanwhile, for most parts of the game, the Southern Americans were dominating the game.
In the first half, the likes of Messi and Angel Di Maria scored a goal each to keep their side ahead. Till the 80th minute, it looked like the Blue and White Brigade would easily run away with the title. However, Kylian Mbappe turned the game in the next minute or so with two goals. This eventually meant that the game was moved into the extra time of 30 minutes.
In the 108th minute, thanks to Messi’s brilliance, combined with the French defender’s ‘school boy’ error gave a lead to Argentina. At that point, the fans thought that the moment has come finally. However, with only two minutes left in the extra time, Mbappe ensured that the two-time winners stayed in the hunt till and the game moved into the penalty shootout.
In the shootout, the now champions outclassed France as they won 4-2. With this, Messi, who announced that this was his final World Cup, finally won the title that eluded him for years. After the win, his mother rushed towards her son and it was an emotional moment for the duo.

On the other hand, Argentina head coach, Lionel Scaloni was short of words after the game.
“I cannot believe that we have suffered so much in a perfect game. Unbelievable, but this team responds to everything,” Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni said.
“I am proud of the work they did. It is an exciting group. With the blows we received today, with the draws, this makes you emotional. I want to tell people to enjoy, it’s a historic moment for our country.”
