Sri Lanka cricketer Wanindu Hasaranga was seen getting emotional during his sister’s wedding in a viral video that has gone viral on social media. The 26-year-old, who led B-Love Kandy to the title in the 2023 Lanka Premier League (LPL) with his fiery all-round heroics, couldn’t hold back tears at a big moment in his younger sister’s life.

During the wedding ceremony, Hasaranga’s sister came up to him and the cricketer immediately burst into tears as they hugged each other. He also gave his sibling a couple of kisses on her forehead. A man who seemed to be Hasaranga’s brother-in-law later joined the siblings in their emotional moment.

Hasaranga likely to miss Asia Cup 2023

The veteran all-rounder is likely to be ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023 due to a hamstring injury sustained during the recently concluded LPL 2023. Hasaranga has been Sri Lanka’s top spinner in recent years and is currently in red-hot form, implying his absence will leave a huge void for the reigning champions at the continental event. The Galle-born cricketer will have to undergo a fitness test in the coming days after which a decision will be taken regarding his availability.

The B-Love Kandy skipper missed the final following the injury he suffered in Qualifier 2. However, Kandy lifted the title after beating Dambulla Aura by five wickets. Hasarnaga’s all-round heroics were crucial throughout their campaign – leading wicket-taker (19 wickets at an average of 10.73) and top scorer (279 runs at a strike rate of 189.80). In fact, he won almost every top award in the tournament.

Sri Lanka is yet to announce their squad for the Asia Cup 2023. There is no confirmation of Hasaranga’s participation, but he is likely to miss Sri Lanka’s opening match against Bangladesh at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, August 31.
