According to a police complaint, a heated argument between Indian batter Prithvi Shaw and Sapna Gill over a selfie turned into a fight in Mumbai. Eight people have been accused of assault in the police case. In the complaint, two people have been identified who are Shobhit Thakur and Gill. They have refused the charges and have stated that Shaw assaulted them first.

According to the complaint by Shaw’s friend, the fight started at a luxury hotel near the Mumbai airport on Wednesday, February 16, when two fans – a man and a woman approached the Delhi franchise cricketer for selfies.

After a few pictures, when they denied going back and demanded more pictures, the Mumbai-born cricketer called his friend and the manager of the hotel to remove the fans. The complaint asserted that when Shaw and his friend were going back, the fans chased their car and broke the windshield of the car with a baseball bat.

She is not being allowed to go even for medical examination: Ali Kashif Khan

According to Shaw’s friend, the fans demanded Rs 50,000 and threatened them that they will file a case. The allegations however have been challenged. While speaking to the media, Ali Kashif Khan, lawyer of Sapna Gill, has alleged Shaw of assaulting a woman. A video recorded by Sapna showed her struggle with Shaw.

“Sapna has been kept in the Oshiwara police station. She is not being allowed to go even for medical examination,” Mr Khan said

The 23-year-old has not been chosen in the Indian Test squad despite regularly scoring in domestic competitions. His most recent appearance for India was in a T20I in July 2021. He came in second place in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this season with 332 runs at a strike rate of 181.42 with a highest score of 134 against Assam.

He had a mediocre Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign, where he scored only 217 runs in seven innings, at an average of over 50 in List A cricket. Former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir recently advised coaches and selectors to support Shaw and keep him on their radar by endorsing him.
