Formula one is currently being dominated by the Dutch driver Max Verstappen. Currently driving for Red Bull Racing, the Dutch driver has all but won this year’s campaign. Verstappen is currently leading comfortably with 335 points with 11 wins in the season. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who was slated to go toe to toe with Verstappen in the beginning has fallen behind in second with just 219 points.

The Singapore GP scheduled for 2nd October was a chance to cement his position at the top and win the F1 2022, but Verstappen’s qualification has somewhat ruined his chances of a win.

On 1st October, the Red Bull driver could only finish eighth in qualification with a time of 1:51:395 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Verstappen was actually on the way to post a great time on his final lap in Q3 but was asked to box by the team principal. This decision brought out a lot of frustration from the driver and he could be heard cussing on the team radio.

“We ran out of fuel. It’s just incredibly frustrating and shouldn’t happen,” said a frustrated Max Verstappen after the qualification. “When you under-fueld it or you don’t plan to do six laps, then at least you track it throughout the session that you’re not going to make it,” continued the number one driver.

Verstappen was critical of his team’s decision saying, “They should have let me finish the lap before where I think we were already on a pole position lap. I can’t see how much fuel is in the car, but we have all the sensors in the world to track these things. We should have seen that way earlier. I’m not happy at all at the moment.”

“Of course, it’s always a team effort. I can make mistakes and the team can make mistakes, but it’s never acceptable. You learn from it, but this is really bad, to be honest. It shouldn’t happen,” said the Dutch driver.

The Singapore GP starts at 5:30 PM IST on 2nd October 2022.
