The UAE Friendship Cup 2022 is due to witness its final today, on the 7th on March, 2022. The tournament has been a treat for the 90’s cricket fans as many retired superstars were seen participating in the tournament.
The tournament began with an encounter between The World Legends XI and the Indian Legends on the 5th of March. The tournament is being staged at the iconic Sharjah ground, the venue of some memorable encounters in the last decade of the twentieth century.
It was the first encounter of the tournament, with the Indian superstar of yesteryears Mohammad Azaharuddin batting for the Indian Legends team. Thilakaratne Dilshan was bowling the 8th over of the innings. In the third bowl of the over Azahar stepped out and lofted Dilshan over mid-wicket for a beautiful six.
Azahar during his playing times was famous for his classy wrist-work. The shot that he played against Dilshan was a reminder of Azahar’s flexible yet strong wrists. The commentators were delighted with the shot along with the spectators present in the ground. The shot as if reminded the fans of the golden days of Mohammad Azaharuddin.

The first encounter between the Indian Legends and the World Legends XI was dominated by the World Legends team. Batting first the World Xi team put on a total of 139 runs in their quota of 10 overs. Asghar Afghan was the highest scorer of the innings scoring 48 runs of 18 deliveries.
Chasing a huge target, the Indian team never got going. They managed only a total of 66 runs in their 10 overs. Jai Prakash Yadav was the highest scorer for the team scoring 22 runs of 13 deliveries. Indian Legends were defeated in the first encounter of their campaign by a huge margin of 73 runs.
