India is currently locking horns with West Indies in the first Test, which is being played at Windsor Park, Roseau, in Dominica. The hosts, after winning the toss, were bundled out for 150 runs. At the end of the play on day one, India are 80 runs for no loss. The Men in Blue skipper, Rohit Sharma is batting on 30 runs with three fours and a six, and debutant Yashashvi Jaiswal is batting on 40 runs, which includes six boundaries.

Meanwhile, Just before the end of the first session on Day 1, star India pacer, Mohammad Siraj took a brilliant catch to dismiss the West Indies batter, Jermaine Blackwood. This was the Carrebean’s fourth wicket just before the lunch break. He attempted to hit Ravindra Jadeja, but he mistimed it. Siraj had to dive on his right to execute a one-handed catch when the ball went high.

I think we’re going to see some special performances from him: Ravichandran Ashwin

The catch left legendary West Indies cricketer Courtney Walsh in disbelief. “Spleind catch. This is a match-winning catch. These types of catches turn the match on its head but let’s hope he is alright there,” said Walsh on Jio Cinema when Siraj grabbed the stunner.

If we talk about the match further, the West Indies side was able to play only 64 overs on the first day. The star bowler for the Indian side was their veteran off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, who snapped a fifer in his spell of 24.3 overs where he conceded 60 runs and bowled six maiden overs. Three wickets were grabbed by Ravindra Jadeja in his spell of 14 overs, where he conceded just 26 runs. One wicket each was bagged by seamers, Shardul Thakur and Mohammad Siraj.

“Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen,” Ashwin was quoted as saying in the interview after the end of play on day one.

“International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions. With so many leagues around, we can get carried away with a few performances in these leagues but international cricket is different. Jaiswal is a vibrant cricketer, extremely talented. I hope he goes on to do great things in his career. I think we’re going to see some special performances from him,” the 36-year-old asserted.
