Watch: Para Cricket Captain Amir Hussain Lone’s inspirational journey
Jammu and Kashmir’s para-cricket team’s captain, Amir Hussain Lone’s story is quite inspirational. The 34-year-old is a specially-abled player from Waghama village in Bijbehara. After meeting with an accident in his father’s mill when he was just eight years old, he lost both his arms. However, in 2013, his teacher introduced him to para cricket. He has a very unique style of batting and bowling. He uses his neck and shoulders to bat while he uses his feet to bowl. While talking about his journey, he mentioned how unsupportive the government was in his case.
Amir told ANI, “After the accident, I didn’t lose hope and worked hard. I can do everything by myself and I am not dependent on anyone. No one helped me after my accident. Not even the government supported me but my family was always there for me. I played nationals in Delhi in 2013 and in 2018 I played an international match against Bangladesh. After that, I played cricket in Nepal, Sharjah and Dubai. Everyone was shocked to see me playing with my legs (bowling) and batting with my shoulder and neck.”

Like every other player, Amir idolises Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli and wishes to meet them soon. Additionally, Pickle Entertainment is making a movie on Amir and Vicky Kaushal might be a part of it. However, nothing is confirmed as of now.
Para Games gold medallist archer Sheetal Devi won the Best Female Athlete crown
President Droupadi Murmu honoured India’s best-performing athletes in a grand ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. While cricketer Mohammed Shami received the Arjuna Award, 27 other athletes won the award as well. Out of which, Gold-medalist para-archer Sheetal Devi was one. The 16-year-old athlete won three gold medals at the Para Asian Games in Hangzhou last year.
Sheetal is without upper limbs due to a rare medical condition called phocomelia. Moreover, she is the only international para-archery champion with the rare condition. Considering her age, she is a very hard-working athlete and has a very bright future ahead.
