Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe game in the Super 12 round of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 was nothing less than a thriller. Before the game, not just Bangladesh and Zimbabwe fans but Pakistan fans also had some interest in the game. After all, the 2009 winners needed their Asian neighbors to win the game to keep their semis hopes afloat. The game turned out to be nerve-wracking for all these fans.

Zimbabwe and Bangladesh fought hard as they were also playing a must-win game and were looking to get closer to the semis. As they say, there can only be one. After all the high drama in Zimbabwe’s innings, the Green Brigade emerged winners by just three runs. However, when they needed to defend five runs off the last ball, their wicketkeeper batter Nurul Hasan made a terrible mistake.

After Zimbabwe’s batter missed the ball, Hasan attempted a stumping to finish the game off. However, he collected the ball in front of the stumps. This meant that the ball was illegal and the free hit was called with four runs to win for the Red Brigade. However, Mosaddek Hossain managed to bowl a dot ball and won the game for his side. All these proceedings were explained by Pommie Mbangwa.

Talking about the game, the Shakib Al Hasan-led side won the toss and elected to bat first. Thanks to Najmul Shanto’s 71, the skipper’s 23, and a cameo from Afif Hossain (29 off 19 balls), Bangladesh scored a competitive 150/7 at the end of the innings. The Asian side had a poor start as they lost the wickets of Saumya Sarkar and Liton Das early. Meanwhile, in reply, the Southern African side lost five wickets for 69 runs. The likes of Sean Williams, Ryan Burl, and Richard Ngarwa tried to win the game but failed to do so.

With this win, Bangladesh has kept their and Pakistan’s semis hopes alive. At the time of writing, Pakistan has won its game against the Netherlands.
