Experts unhappy with Ranchi Test pitch –
England were bowled out for 353 and Shoaib Bashir then showed his talent with four wickets. Team India ended the day at 219/7 with Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav batting together.
Paras Mhambrey the Indian bowling coach said, “There are no specific instructions from our side that we want to play a rank turner. We expected it to be similar to how we played it in Saurashtra, but the soil here is different. You cannot guarantee the exact wicket that you want”. The comments were made at the end of the day on Saturday.
The former India bowler also said, “Generally, the nature of the wicket here is that it gets slower and lower so we expected that. But to be honest we didn’t expect it to be playing that low on the 2nd day itself. A couple of balls did keep low in the 1st innings, but that’s what we didn’t expect. We expected it to get slower and lower but not the variable bounce.”
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan took to Twitter and wrote “India have completely brought England into the game preparing a pitch like this. Much appreciated”. Even the commentators were surprised with the way the surface has been playing since the game began.
At the time of writing, Team India had scored 250 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Dhruv Jurel was batting on 46 runs from 89 balls while Kuldeep Yadav was on 28 runs.
