Rajasthan and Kolkata faced off in the 30th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The match was full of twists and its fate was decided only in the last over. Rajasthan was able to hold their composure till the end and emerge victorious in the battle of nerves.

Rajasthan posted a huge total of 217 runs in their 20 overs on the back off a brilliant century by their star opener Jos Buttler (103 off 61). But Kolkata did not go down without a fight and even at one stage it appeared that they will achieve the target very easily. But it was a magical over from Rajasthan’s leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, that completely changed the complexion of the match. In the 17th over of Kolkata innings Chahal just conceded two runs and picked up four wickets.

The hat-trick included the wickets of Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Mavi and Pat Cummins. After Venkatesh Iyer was dismissed in the first ball of the over, Shreyas was the next victim of Chahal in the fourth delivery. He was dismissed Leg Before Wicket (LBW) and it was a huge turning point of the match. The skipper of the Kolkata team was going strong and would have taken the team to victory if he batted longer. Kolkata at this stage required someone to continue with the momentum their captain has given them. The ideal player at this stage should have been Pat Cummins, who could have taken the attack to the bowlers.

But to everybody’s surprise Shivam Mavi came out to bat at this stage. As Mavi walked into the center, Shreyas was making his way back to the dug out after his dismissal. His gestures while having a word with the Head Coach of the team, Brendon McCullum, it appeared that Shreyas was disappointed with the magament’s decision to send Sheldon Jackson and Shivam Mavi ahead of pat Cummins.

Notably, the Aussie star player scored 56* off 15 deliveries against Mumbai to win Kolkata the match.
