Watch: UAE tailender hits monstrous 109-metre six against Sri Lanka pacer Dushmantha Chameera
Even though Sri Lanka thrashed the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Junaid Siddique’s six will be remembered for a long time. The pacer bowler came out to bat when UAE lost their ninth wicket on 56 runs after 15 overs. Even though the UAE’s defeat was looking inevitable, Siddique decided to have some fun with the bat. On the second ball of the 17th over, he decided to hit a 109-metre six.
Dushmantha Chameera was bowling that over and was bowling out his wonderful spell. Up until this point, he had given away only nine runs in his spell of 3.1 overs. The right-arm pacer also took three wickets in the game. Meanwhile, Chameera bowled a full length delivery aimed at stumps. Junaid connected the ball well and sent it over the ropes between deep midwicket and deep square leg.

Talking about the game, Sri Lanka scored 152/8, thanks to Pathum Nissanka’s fifty. The team might have ended up a lower score than this if not for him. Karthik Meiyappan took the first hat-trick of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. The hat-trick meant that the 2014 winners were in trouble. However, Nissanka kept his cool and took the team to a competitive total.
In reply, the UAE were bowled out for 73 runs, losing the game by 79 runs. With this, the Lankan Lions’ Net Run Rate (NRR) has shot up to +0.60 from minus two. This means that they are well and trly alive for the Super 12 race with the Netherland and Namibia. After the game Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka said “I thank the crowd for coming all the way from Melbourne. We were disappointed with 150, we could have ended up with 180-90, the tone was set up front but myself and Danu didn’t click in the middle. We focus on the win only, so once Chameera and Hasaranga got going it wasn’t going to be easy for them. Nissanka’s focus is to bat through the innings, he is outstanding, that is his focus and I am pleased for him.”
