India’s legendary batsman, former captain Virat Kohli recently gave a stunning performance as it helped the Indian cricket team to chase down a low target set by the Aussies in the first ODI World Cup game for both teams. India beat Australia by six wickets and gained 2 points in the points table of the World Cup.

Virat Kohli’s contribution was not just restricted to the bad, but he also gave a stunning contribution in the field like always. Virat Kohli saved multiple runs with his fielding and took a mind-blowing catch of Mitchell Marsh on the slip in just the third over of the game. For his contribution as the fielder, Virat Kohli was felicitated with a medal in the dressing room after the match. The entertaining cricketer enjoyed receiving the medal like an Olympic medal and posed with it, in his mouth like the athletes and began dancing.

“Firstly… at last, we got this because we’ve been telling everyone that we need to have the best fielder of the match etc. And at last, we got some tokens for it. I think in today’s game, Ishan put up an outstanding effort. Shreyas was outstanding for taking two catches. But something we keep talking about in this team is consistency. It’s just not about one catch or one piece of fielding. Overall, I’d like to think the intensity, backing up… not only doing your job but also making sure that you encourage and keep the right fielders at the right place. So, this one goes to Virat,” said Dilip while felicitating Virat with the medal.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma on Virat Kohli after beating Australia

“Quite honestly not a lot of conversation with Virat (as KL walked out on 2-3 in the 3rd over) I thought I’d get a good shower and get a break. I was just trying to get my breath back. Virat said there’s a bit in the wicket, so play like Test cricket for a while. There was a bit of help for the pacers with the new ball, and then the spinners also. In the last 15-20 overs, dew played a part and that helped quite a bit”, said Player of the match KL Rahul as he talked about Virat Kohli’s advice.

In the post-match ceremony, Captain Rohit Sharma also credited Virat and KL, Rahul, for their chase and said, “I was (nervous), you don’t want to start your innings like that, credit to the Aussies bowlers as they bowled in good areas but some loose shots as well, when you have that kind of target you want to score as much as possible in the powerplay, but credit to Virat and KL on how they went about the chase.”
