Australia are on course to losing another Test series to India and this time there is a very high probability of them getting clean sweeped. They have already lost the first two Tests of the series after suffering batting collapses in both the matches.

How is Umesh Yadav playing over Mohammed Shami in the third Test against Australia?

Umesh Yadav has taken Mohammad Shami’s position for the third Test in Indore against Australia as part of an effort by India to control his workload. Moreover, Shubman Gill will play his debut Test of the series in place of KL Rahul.

Shami has only bowled 29.7 overs in three innings in a series when spinners have bowled the most overs. But, it is believed that a concern about Shami’s workload has been raised, and with the Indian T20 League scheduled to follow, the Indian team management have chosen to rest him.

India is unwilling to take any risks with Shami because they already lost Jasprit Bumrah for an extended period of time and have a very trustworthy alternative in Umesh. Especially, with the Test championship final to be contested in England where Shami will serve as the primary man of the attack.

After deciding to bat first against Australia in the third Test on Wednesday in Indore, India got bundled out for 109. Nathan Lyon removed Cheteshwar Pujara for one after Matt Kuhnemann had claimed the team’s first two wickets, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Together with them, India also lost Ravindra Jadeja for four, while Shreyas Iyer was unable to start the scoring with his bat after being bowled by Kuhnemann.

Umesh Yadav was the player who caused the most trouble as he hit two sixes along with one boundary which delighted the former skipper Virat Kohli pretty much. It was because of this quick fire knock that India was able to cross the mark of 100 in the first innings.

Australian bowlers have been incredibly accurate with their line and length, denying Indian hitters any chance to feel at ease on such a field. Todd Murphy, Matthew Kuhnemann, and Nathan Lyon, the three spinners, have taken all the wickets. It’s now onto the batters to get the much important lead in this Test match and gain some important momentum which the team has been lacking.
