Former Indian captain Virat Kohli takes the field, he becomes an animated figure. Usually seen wearing his heart on his sleeve and never afraid to take on rival players, Kohli was seen with a fairly relaxed attitude against the West Indies during the first Test as India cruised to a dominant victory. Rohit Sharma and company have won the first Test by an innings and 141 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 12 wickets over both innings and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 171 runs on debut.

Kohli maintained a cool composure, and on Day 3, the former India captain even performed some spontaneous dance routines for the Dominica audience during the innings break. The 34-year-old did hit a half-century and seemed to be in a festive mood before India romped to a 1-0 series lead after limiting the West Indies to 130 in their second innings.

Here’s the video

Yashasvi Jaiswal shines on debut

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli started India’s innings at 312/2, with the former – who made his Test debut in Dominica – finally bowled for 171. He became the 17th Indian batsman to score a century in his Test debut. His innings had 16 fours and one six. More than the runs, Yashasvi’s resolve to stay at the bat for an extended amount of time must have instilled a lot of confidence in head coach Rahul Dravid.

However, the 34-year-old batter was removed on 76 by Rahkeem Cornwall, preventing him from reaching the 200-run milestone. Kohli had gone a long time without scoring a century in international cricket (2019-2022). Alick Athaneze was once again the leading scorer for the hosts, although scoring only 28 points off 44 deliveries.

Skipper Rohit Sharma, who made a century in the first innings, commended his team for an outstanding all-round performance in the first match, which gave them a 1-0 series lead.  R Ashwin dominated the match with 12 wickets, breaking several records. Despite his incredible stats, Ashwin was not named Player of the Match; instead, the honour went to Jaiswal.

The two teams will meet again on July 20 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain for the second Test of the series.
