India’s all-format captain Rohit Sharma recently addressed his concerns towards the rising air pollution in Indian cities. The Indian cricket team is currently locking horns with Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from 2 PM IST for the ODI World Cup 2023.

In the pre-match conference, Rohit Sharma raised his concern for future generations considering the rising pollution levels throughout the country. Rohit highlighted that responsible people must take action so that the cities are not wrapped with polluted air composed of toxins.

“In an ideal world, you do not want a situation like this, but I am pretty sure that the concerned people are taking the necessary steps to avoid this kind of situation. It is not ideal, and everyone knows that. Looking at our future generations, your kids, my kid. They must get to live without any fear. Every time I get to speak outside of cricket, or not discuss cricket, I always talk about this. We have to look after our future generations,” said Rohit Sharma.

Jay Shah also added to the discussion

The Indian Cricket Board’s secretary Jay Shah was also quoted by the Indian Express, as proposing that the after-match fireworks show will not be conducted in Delhi and Mumbai considering the poor pollution levels, he said, “I took up the matter formally with the Apex Council and there won’t be any fireworks display in Mumbai and Delhi, which can add to the pollution level. The Board is committed to combating environmental issues and will always place the interest of our fans and stakeholders at the forefront.”

“The Indian Cricket Board acknowledges the urgent concern surrounding air quality in both Mumbai and New Delhi. While we strive to host the World Cup in a manner befitting the celebration of cricket, we remain steadfast in our commitment to prioritising the health and safety of all our stakeholders”, added Shah.
