‘Well done kid, don’t ever change’ – Ashwell Prince heaps praises on Marco Jansen for ‘battle’ against Jasprit Bumrah
Former South African batter Ashwell Prince was impressed with the way young pacer Marco Jansen performed against India in his debut series. Jansen picked 19 wickets in three matches at an average of 16.47 and was the second-highest wicket-taker in the series just behind Kagiso Rabada. He picked a four-wicket haul thrice in six innings.
During the second Test, Jansen was engaged in an altercation with Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah with whom he shared the Mumbai Indians dressing room last year. Jansen bombarded Bumrah with bouncers that hit him on his body. Bumrah and Jansen had a heated interaction in the middle of the pitch and match officials had to separate them.
During the third Test, Bumrah bowled Jansen and gave him a stare. In his recent tweet, Prince applauded Jansen for his bowling efforts and not backing down in the battle with Bumrah. He added that Jansen didn’t think about the IPL and put his team first.
“One more thing I particularly enjoyed during #SAvIND series, the fact that #MarcoJansen didn’t back down once in the battle with Bumrah! He didn’t think about the IPL and how it might affect his relationships with people there. He put his country 1st, the way it should be,” Prince wrote.

“You be you and if people can’t respect you, that’s their problem” – Ashwell Prince advises Marco Jansen
Prince further advised Jansen to never change and put the country first. He also added that a game like cricket is all about competing and not about bank balances.
“Well done kid, don’t ever change. You be you and if people can’t respect you for being you, being competitive, putting your country 1st. That’s their problem. Sport is about competing, not giving an inch and upholding the spirit of the game. Not about bank balances. #lesson2youth,” Prince wrote.
