Will Virat Kohli Be Available For The Upcoming Mega Events for India?

Virat Kohli has been going through a slump patch in his career for India since 2019. He failed to score a single ton across all three formats. Even, he got the opportunity to get back in his level-best form during the English tour. But, he failed to do so on English soil. However, after that tour, as per reports, Indian selectors wanted him to play in this ongoing West Indies tour. 

But, he requested a rest from the Board, and thus, selectors did not pick him for both the ODI and T20I series. On 30 July 2022, the Indian Board announced a squad for three upcoming ODIs against Zimbabwe in August. Surprisingly, he did not get featured in that squad again. Regarding Virat Kohli’s availability in upcoming mega events, a source came up with a big revelation.

“Virat Kohli had spoken to selectors that he would be available from the Asia Cup onwards.” – Source to PTI

As per sources to PTI, the Indian batter is most likely to be available from the upcoming Asia Cup onwards. The source said: “Virat had spoken to selectors that he would be available from the Asia Cup onwards. The first team players will hardly get rest from Asia Cup till the end of World T20. Hence this is a two-week window after Windies tour when they can rest,”

Ahead of the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli’s form will be crucial for India. Hence, the upcoming Asia Cup tournament will be a major platform for Team India for better preparation. However, earlier this month, in a statement released by Star Sports Kohli said that he promised to give his best to help the Indian side win the mega-events.

“My main aim is to help India win the Asia Cup and the World Cup and for that I am ready to do anything for the team,” Virat Kohli added. Meanwhile, the Asia Cup is going to be held in UAE from 27 August 2022 after it got shifted from Sri Lanka.
