‘Wo E SALA CUP NAMDE’- Fans react as Royal Challengers Bangalore beat UP Warriorz by 23 runs in WPL 2024
The Womens Premier league(WPL) 2024 time at the Chinnaswamy is finally over. The fans will be happy with the last game of the tournament ending in a good note. It was important for the Royal Challengers Bangalore women(RCB-W) to finish with a bang at home. The tone was already set in the first innings as the RCB-W put the UP Warriorz on the backfoot in the first innings with a huge total of 198 on the board.
The Second innings was more or less the same story. The half century from skipper Alyssa Healy and the cameos from Deepti Sharma and Poonam Khemnar were not effective enough in this run chase. The RCB- W bowlers kept their nerve with Sophie Devine, Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham and Asha Sobhana taking two wickets each. In the end it was a great 23-run victory for the home team in their last game in Bangalore.
Smriti Mandhana leading from the front
The star performer of the match was none other than RCB-W skipper Smriti Mandhana. It was a much more attacking approach from Mandhana in this innings. However, she still played some of her stylish and elegant shots in the middle as well. There might have been a few drop chances, but she still made use of them as her innings progressed. Mandhana’s innings of 80 from 50 deliveries included 10 fours and 3 sixes. With this knock the skipper is currently the orange cap holder and is now looking like one of the threatening batters in the league.
This has brought the RCB-W to number 3 on the points table. They have now won 3 out of their 5 games at home. There is still half the tournament left, but we can still say that they are not far away from making it to the playoffs. Smriti Mandhana and her girls will be looking to give similar dominant performances in the Kotla as well where they will up against the Gujarat Giants in their next fixture.
