WWE Champion reveals why match with ‘The Rock’ never happened
WWE Legend Dwayne Johnson, aka “The Rock.” is one of the biggest exports who successfully transformed his career from a professional wrestler to an A-lister Hollywood actor over the past decade. The former American wrestler Shawn Michaels recently revealed why the match between him and Johnson never took place in WWE.
Michael is currently serving as the Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative at NXT. While speaking with Alex McCarthy for the Daily Mail, he talked about the missed chance of WWE putting him in the ring along with The Rock after Michaels’ return.
In the 90s, there was a chance of a contest between the two, but it was Micheals’ ego that prevented him to fight with a rising star. But after his return in 2002, the WWE had a chance a put Michaels and Johnson together in the ring, but both stars never aligned to make it happen.
‘We all change and we grow’ – Shawn Michaels
“Everyone knows the story of me being difficult, having a huge change of heart and coming back in 2002,’ Michaels began. I was always open to it but it didn’t work out. He became an incredibly busy man and famous guy and everything else and I would imagine his priorities changed quite a bit, and the things he wanted to do I think he did and I respect that,” said Michaels.
“We all change and we grow. I for one always go back to the Hall of Fame when we did get to see each other and talk with each other and make peace. But that’s the thing I’ve had the opportunity to do with everyone that I’ve worked with and that’s what’s most important to me,” he further added.
There would have been an incredible contest between the two in 2002 as Michaels was making his return after a back injury, while Dwayne Johnson was in his prime at that time.
Michaels also shared his experiences while working with Johnson’s daughter Ava Raine in WWE NXT. Raine was announced as the stable’s fourth member by Schism. Now, she became an important member of the stable and has been featured heavily on weekly television.
“It’s funny because I get to work with his daughter every day,’ Michaels said. ‘She’s a wonderful young lady and it’s one of those things where I can do my best to help Ava every day,” Michaels said.
