In the ongoing One-Day World Cup 2023 qualifiers, the West Indies faced the Netherlands in Takashinga Sports Club, Harare. In their last group game, the West Indies were asked to bat first. The decision to bowl first didn’t favour the Netherlands as they were thrashed by Carrebian batters. Riding on Nicholas Pooran’s century, the West Indies posted a mammoth total of 374-6 in 50 overs.

Pooran continued to dominate the tournament with the bat as he scored his second century in the last three games. Pooran scored an unbeaten 104 runs off just 65 balls with the help of nine boundaries and six maximums. Earlier, the West Indies started well as openers Brandon King and Johnson Charles added 101 runs for the first wicket in 17.2 overs.

Charles, in his innings, scored 54 runs off 55 balls with the help of six and nine boundaries. After his departure, King continued to hammer opposition bowlers, along with Shamrah Brook. Both added 59 runs for the second wicket. Brook scored 25 runs off 31 balls, while King scored 74 runs off 81 balls with the help of 13 boundaries.

Shaqib Zulfikar gave hope to the Netherlands

Getting punished by West Indies batters, the Netherlands felt the pressure of the big stage. However, soon spinner Shaqib Zulfikar turned the table as he dismissed both King and Brook Within 10 balls. Their departure pushed the West Indies back into the game. Despite immense pressure, Wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran and Shai Hope added 108 runs for the fourth wicket.

In his innings, Hope scored 47 runs off 38 balls with the help of three boundaries and two sixes. In the end, Pooran, along with Keemo Paul, added an unbeaten 79 runs for the seventh wicket. Paul, in his innings, scored an unbeaten 46 runs off just 25 balls with the help of four boundaries and two sixes. For the Netherlands, Zulfikar and Bas de Leede clinched two wickets each, while Van Beek and Kingma got one wicket each.
