The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League has started and it is going in full flow. Where one side the franchises like Rajasthan, Bangalore, Lucknow, Gujarat, Punjab, and Chennai has opened their account, on the other side teams like Kolkata Delhi, Hyderabad and the five-time champions Mumbai are yet to open the scoring.

The Bangalore franchise defeated the most successful Mumbai franchise where they defeated them by eight wickets with 22 balls to spare. The opening duo of Faf Du Plessis and Virat Kohli thrashed the Mumbai bowlers, which have the likes of Jofra Archer, Jason Behrendorff, Green, and Piyush Chawla.

Both of them put together a partnership of 148 runs in the 14.5 overs before the 38-year-old was dismissed after playing a brilliant knock of 73 runs from 43 balls with five fours and six sixes. Kohli scored an unbeaten knock of 82 runs from 49 balls, which included six fours and five sixes.

At this point, he’s out of our control: Sanjay Bangar

The Bangalore-based franchise has suffered a major setback in the current Indian T20 League season (ITL). Their star batter from last season,  Rajat Patidar has been ruled out of the whole campaign. His absence was initially thought to be limited to the first half of the season, and the management had faith that he would return eventually. However, the organization has now acknowledged the most recent development and said they won’t be naming Patidar’s replacement at this time.

“Unfortunately, Rajat Patidar has been ruled out of #ITL2023 due to an Achilles Heel injury. We wish Rajat a speedy recovery and will continue to support him during the process. The coaches and management have decided not to name a replacement player for Rajat just yet,” the Bangalore franchise wrote on their social media handles.

It’s interesting to note that Sanjay Bangar, the head coach of the Bangalore side expressed hope that the NCA would make a “sporting call” on Patidar before the first game versus Mumbai and that he was now in complete control of the NCA.

“As far as Rajat goes, at this point he’s out of our control, at the NCA he’s sort of undergoing treatment in that particular academy and we are still waiting for the clarifications from him. And once we get the clarifications, our media team will certainly keep you in the loop and it might also be the case the NCA will take a very sporting call on what he does or what his future holds,” Bangar was quoted as saying on India TV.
