‘You have to blame the T20 cricket….’ – AB de Villiers slams T20 cricket for shorter Test series

“I am not happy that there is not a third Test” says de Villiers.

As the Test series between India and South Africa concluded, AB de Villiers wasn’t satisfied with the way the series concluded. Moreover, de Villiers criticised the test series as it had only two test matches. He emphasised that if test cricket has to flourish, some changes should be made. De Villiers had played 114 test matches for South Africa and left a huge impact on the team.

“I am not happy that there is not a third Test. You have to blame the T20 cricket going around the world for that,” he said. “I do not know whom to blame, but I sense something is wrong. If you want to see all the teams compete and see who is the best Test team in the world, something has to change,” de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

As the South African squad was declared for the New Zealand test series, a lot of main players have backed out of the series. They have chosen the SA20 League over the international match. Thus, the squad was declared to consist of backup players. After the test squad declaration, South Africa received a lot of criticism.

“It was a pretty stock-standard wicket, in my opinion” – AB de Villiers on the Cape Town pitch

After India defeated the Proteas in their backyard, the controversy related to the Cape Town pitch came to light. However, AB de Villiers defended the pitch and said it gets easier with time. He also questioned the batters and mentioned Ben Stokes’ double hundred on the same ground. Nonetheless, he gave credit to the bowlers and criticised the batters for not taking charge.

On his YouTube channel, De Villiers said, “It was a pretty stock-standard wicket, in my opinion. I remember jumping around there on day one. If you can just get through the first session on day one, it gets easier.”
