20-20 World Cup 2022: Schedule, Groups, Teams, Venues

After a long-wait, the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup will start on October 16. The opening game of the tournament will be played between Sri Lanka and Namibia. Unlike the ODI World Cup, the teams have been seeded according to their rankings in world cricket and performance in the last event. This means that a lot of stronger teams have been directly seeded in the Super 12 round.

The current format was first introduced in 2014 edition to reduce the one-sided games. At that time, 10 teams used to play the second round, also known as Super 10. Last year, space for two more teams was created for what is now known as Super 12 round. Talking about the participating teams, only Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are the two teams which didn’t play the previous event.

Zimbabwe were banned from international cricket in 2019 at a time when the qualifiers were played for 2021 edition. On the other hand, the UAE is playing this event for the first time. Previously, they have played two ODI World Cups in 1996 and 2015. Now, without further ado, let’s dive into further details on the showpiece event to be played in Australia.
