Hugh Edmeades has hosted the IPL auctions for 6 seasons. In one of them, the London-based auctioneer was not able to fully host the event. In the IPL mega auction 2022, Hugh fell off unconscious due to postural hypotension. As a result, a new auctioneer had to be recalled by the organizers. Barring that, Edmeades has hosted a total of 5 other auctions. From 2018 to 2023, Hugh was named the auctioneer for every season. For IPL 2024, he has not been called by the organizers.

Edmeades has conducted more than 2500 auctions in his lifetime. He is professionally a classic car and charity auctioneer and an independent fine art auctioneer. Edmeades was associated with the Christie’s for more than 38 years. In 2016, he parted ways with them. Over the years, Edmeades developed his love for Cricket and India after travelling and conducting auctions in the country of the sport for more than 5 seasons. He will be missed in the auctions this time around.
