On 2 September 2022, England announced their 15-member squad for the mega event including him. But, on the same day, they confirmed his unavailability.
In an official statement, they confirmed that Bairstow sustained a lower limb injury. This injury occurred in a freak accident whilst he was laying golf on Friday in Leeds. The Board also confirmed that he will see a specialist next week to ascertain the full extent of the injury. However, the Board will name a replacement for him in the coming days ahead of the tournament.
