The stage was set for both teams as India faced arch-rivals Pakistan in the semi-final of the 2011 World Cup in Mohali. Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz had a fantastic game as he picked up five wickets for 46 runs only. However, his heroic effort went in vain as Pakistan lost the match by 29 runs.

Speaking of the match, MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first. India posted a competitive total of 260 runs in 50 overs by losing nine wickets. Sachin Tendulkar was the highest scorer with 85 runs off 115 balls. In reply, Pakistan’s middle-order batters experienced a collapse as they managed only 231 runs in 49.5 overs. Eventually, India qualified for the final and then, won the World Cup after 28 years.
