5 Reasons Why Sanju Samson Needed To Be In The 20-20 World Cup Squad Of India

On 12 September 2022, India announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming 20-20 World Cup. Ahead of that announcement, there were reports that India could have considered Sanju Samson ahead of Pant and Dinesh Karthik. But, Sanju Samson failed to get a spot in the final squad for the mega event.

Even, though he failed to grab a spot as one of the stand-by players. Fans were hoping to see him in the squad. So, they were also quite surprised by not seeing him in the final list of players. There are some reasons for which India needed him in the squad for the mega event in Australia later this year.

Rishabh Pant’s inconsistency in T20Is

Before the announcement of India’s final squad for the 20-20 World Cup, there were reports that Indian selectors might look to drop Rishabh Pant. They might choose Sanju Samson and Dinesh Karthik over him for the mega event. Pant has been phenomenal in the longest format of the game for India. 

Recently, he managed to play some match-winning knocks for India in the 50-over format also. But, in the shortest format of the game, he failed to replicate such performances. Therefore, fans were hoping to include Samson ahead of him. But, selectors showed faith in Pant and veteran keeper Karthik only.
