On 8 September 2022, Virat Kohli was busy playing for India against Afghanistan in Asia Cup. Since 2019, he has failed to score a ton across all formats. But, in Rohit Sharma’s absence, he came out to open the innings with KL Rahul. He ended up scoring 122* runs off 61 balls, at a strike rate of 200.

With this inning, he is now the current highest run-scorer of this year’s Asia cup. He has scored 276 runs in five matches, at an average of 92. However, India already got out of the tournament. But, ahead of the 20-20 World Cup, this form of Kohli will make fans happy. Meanwhile, during this magnificent inning, he achieved many records as an individual batter.

Since 2019, the former India skipper failed to score a ton across all three formats for India. Before that, he was scoring centuries for fun. With that pace, every fan was expecting him to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 centuries. But, Since 2019, he failed to score at that rate for India.

After that, he took a rest from several series and tours. He tried some different things. But, nothing was coming off from him. But, in this Asia Cup, he looked in good touch since the first match. Now, he finally crossed the 100-run mark. With this ton, he has now 71 tons in his bag in the international area. He is now in the second spot with former Australia great Ricky Ponting.
