It was another instance when Kohli’s sledging backfired him. It happened when the Kolkata franchise went to Bangalore to face them in the Indian T20 League 2019. Speaking about the match. Bangalore posted a huge total of 205 runs as Virat Kohli was the highest scorer with 84 runs off 49 balls. But, in reply, Kolkata managed to chase it down with five balls to spare as Andre Russell smacked an unbeaten 48-run knock of 13 balls only.

Speaking about the match in an interview on Knights Unplugged, Russel said that the manner in which Kohli celebrated Karthik’s dismissal, triggered him that day. He said: “Dinesh Karthik got one boundary or two then he got out. He hit the ball and I think Kohli took the catch [Yuzvendra Chahal was the one to take the catch]. Kohli turned to Venky (Kolkata franchise’s CEO Venky Mysore) where all the wives and Kolkata supporters were and he is like ‘come on. When I looked up, like something triggered in my head like, hell no this is not over,”
