Indian T20 League 2022: Top 10 memes from Rajasthan vs Mumbai match
Rajasthan took on Mumbai in the 44th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai. The match was a close affair between the bat and the ball as the pitch looked slow and sticky providing assistance to the bowlers.
Mumbai won the toss and decided to field first in the match. Rajasthan made a decent start before Devdutt Padikkal (15 of 15) was dismissed in the fifth over the innings. Sanju Samson was the next man to come out. He got together with Jos Buttler and put up a partnership of 28 runs before Samson (16 of 7) was dismissed by the debutant Kumar Kartikeya. While Rajasthan kept forming small partnerships they also kept losing wickets at regular intervals. But Jos Buttler was once again showing his love for Mumbai bowling. He built his innings steadily as he took time in the beginning to get an idea of the conditions. After Buttler settled down he went berserk against Hrithik Shokeen. He slammed the young spinner for four sixes in the 16th over but was dismissed on the final delivery of the same over.
Buttler played a brilliant knock of 67 runs from 52 deliveries hitting five fours and four sixes. While his innings laid the foundation, Ravichandran Ashwin’s (21 off 90) cameo in the lower order provided the finishing touch for the men in pink and blue. Rajasthan managed to reach a par total of 158 runs for six wickets from their 20 overs. Riley Meredith and Hrithik Shokeen picked up two wickets each for Mumbai, but the most impressive of the bowlers was the debutant Kumar Kartikeya. He bowled four overs and conceded 19 runs in them while picking up the wicket of Sanju Samson.
Mumbai started with a blaze as Ishan Kishan was looking in a good touch. But Rohit Sharma (2 off 5) did not last long at the crease and was dismissed in the third over of the innings. Ishan however continued with his aggressive display at the other end and kept the scoring rate up. But the southpaw was undone by Trent Boult in the sixth over of the innings. Ishan scored 26 runs of 18 deliveries hitting four fours and one six before going back into the pavilion. As the powerplays concluded Mumbai was stationed at 41 runs for the loss of two wickets. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma joined hands at this and continued with the necessary momentum to chase down the target. After the 10th over of the innings Mumbai was 75 for two down. The pair stayed strong and put their team in a position of real strength. Yadav completed his half century of 36 deliveries and was looking determined to take his team home. But Yuzvendra Chahal decided to bring his team back into the match picking up the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav in the 15th over. Yadav played a brilliant knock of 51 runs from 39 deliveries hitting five fours and two sixes. His dismissal brought and end to a 81 runs partnership.
As the 15th over concluded Mumbai was stationed at 122 runs for three wickets and required 37 runs of the last five overs. But Tilak Varma (35 off 30) was dismissed soon in the 16th over and the balance of the match started to shift once again. Even Kieron Pollard (10 of 14) was dismissed in the 20th over, Tim David (20 of 9) kept their composure and took Mumbai to their first victory of the match. The men in blue won the match by six wickets with 4 balls remaining in the match. While it was Rajasthan’s third defeat in the tournament from nine matches.
