Sourav Ganguly the former Indian captain has been regarded as one of the cricketing heads around the world. From his time at the helm of the Indian team, Ganguly has been seen as an ideal administrator. He took up the role of the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India in 2019. In a shocking turn of events, Ganguly resigned from the post today on 1st June 2022.  Notably, his tenure at the post was due to end in September this year.

However, the news has not yet been confirmed but the former Indian skipper shared a cryptic message on his Twitter handle. The message seems like a farewell message for his fans and followers. The Tweet from Ganguly read- “2022 marks the 30th year since the start of my journey with cricket in 1992. Since then, cricket has given me a lot. Most importantly, it has given me the support of all of you. I want to thank every single person who has been a part of the journey, supported me, and helped me reach where I am today. Today, I am planning to start something that I feel will probably help a lot of people. I hope you continue your support as I enter this chapter of my life. ”

However, nothing of this sort is confirmed by the BCCI by Ganguly himself still speculations have started to rise. Many think that he is set to begin a career in politics and hence the decision. However, Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary has stated that Ganguly has not yet stepped down to ANI.

Since Ganguly’s beginning at the post a lot has transpired in Indian cricket. His tenure has seen the appointment of Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of India after India’s poor show in the T20 World Cup 2021. A failure to produce results in the international tournaments also saw Virat Kohli’s captaincy being taken away from all the formats. It is believed that Ganguly played major role in the development regarding Kohli’s captaincy. He showed he daring attitude during his tenure as was expected from his days as the skipper of the team.
