India is scheduled to play the fifth, rescheduled one-off Test match against England from July 1, 2022. The Indian Test Team is currently busy playing a four-day warm-up match against Leicestershire. However, netizens raised questions when Indian skipper Rohit Sharma did not come out to bat in the second innings.

However, at first instance, it was looking like the management wanted to try those batters who did not get a chance or look good in the first innings. But, huge news came from the Indian Cricket Board that this batter had tested Covid-19 positive.

Rohit Sharma is most likely to miss the Test match

Speaking about the news, an Indian Cricket Board’s statement came out that the Mumbai batter had tested positive and is currently busy serving his isolation period. The statement said: “Team India captain Mr. Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday. He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the Indian Cricket Board Medical Team. An RT-PCR test will be conducted on Sunday to ascertain his CT value.”

Last year, due to the outbreak of the same Covid-19, the fifth Test match got canceled as it had been rescheduled for this year. But, it is another major setback for India as their top-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin had been already serving an isolation period after testing positive earlier. Even, the Indian opener KL Rahul had been ruled out also due to his groin injury. Rohit Sharma is most likely to miss the upcoming Test match as the recovery time is too little to get ready.

Speaking about the match, after the end of the play on Day three, India set a lead of 366 runs. In the first innings, Rohit Sharma scored 25 runs only. While batting first, India scored 246 runs by losing eight wickets. In reply, the host bundled out for 244 runs. In the third innings, the fifties from Virat and Jadeja ensured India is having a good lead over the opponent.
