After getting preparations for so long, finally, the Indian Test Team was ready to take on England for that fifth rescheduled match at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Though the Indian camp dealt with a major setback before the match as their skipper, Rohit Sharma got ruled out after testing Covid-19 positive.

Therefore, Jasprit Bumrah was named the captain for the match. Therefore, India went with a new opening pair of Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill. Speaking about the match, England was coming with full confidence after defeating the current World Test Champions, the Kiwis at a margin of 3-0 at their home earlier this month.

At the toss, England skipper Ben Stokes won it and asked India to bat first. However, India went with a new pair but the plan did not last long as Shubman Gill got out for 17 runs off 24 balls. The next batters also failed to score big as India was struggling with a score of 98 runs by losing top-five wickets. But, then it was completely the Rishabh Pant – Ravindra Jadeja show as they built the highest ever partnership for the sixth wicket in England. Their 222-run stand ensured that India ended day one by scoring 338 runs after losing seven wickets in 73 overs. Now, India will look to build upon this score on the second day of this Test match.

But, the way Shubman Gill threw away his wickets after facing 24 balls, did not go well for the fans. Even, former India coach Ravi Shastri said that he needs to bring discipline to his batting as it was a nothing shot. Speaking about the incident, veteran pacer James Anderson got the better of him as Gill unnecessarily poked at a delivery bowled on the fourth stump line. As a result, the ball took the bat’s edge and a simple catch was completed by Zak Crawley stationed at the second slip. Hence, fans came out with total frustration and used their social media platforms to criticize this opener batter.
