 Commonwealth Games 2022, Day 5: Results of India’s Events

Indian athletes were in action again on the Day 5 of the Commonwealth Games 2022. It was another opportunity for them to add more glory to India this time around. However, it turned out to be a historical day as India won the gold medal in the Lawn Bowls. Indian men’s Table Tennis Team also secured a gold medal on the same day of this mega event.

Along with these two gold medals, Indian Weightlifter Vikas Thakur won a silver medal in the 96kg category. But, the day ended with a disappointment as Indian shuttlers settled for a silver medal in the mixed team finals. Meanwhile, at the end of this day, India has managed to grab a total number of 13 medals (Gold-5, Silver-5, Bronze-3) so far in the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Lawn Bowls

It was a historical day for India as the country won its first-ever medal in Lawn Bowls. India defeated South Africa in the women’s four Lawn Bowls final (17-10) to win the gold medal.

Table Tennis 

Indian men’s Table Tenis team defeated Singapore (3-1) in the final. Therefore, they clinched a gold medal for India.

Badminton

In the mixed team events, Indian shuttlers went down against Malaysia (1-3) in the final. Hence, they settled for a silver medal this time around. 

Weightlifting

Punam Yadav failed to qualify for the women’s 76kg final. In the women’s 87kg final, Usha Kumara finishes sixth. But, Vikas Thakur won a silver medal in the men’s 96kg category.

Hockey

Indian women’s team lost to England in Pool A match (1-3).

Squash

Sunayna Kuruvilla defeated Pakistan’s Faiza Zafar (3-0) in the women’s singles plate-semifinal. But, Saurav Ghosal loses against New Zealand’s Paul Coll (0-3) in the men’s singles semifinal.

Men’s Long Jump

Muhammed Anees Yahiya and Sreeshankar qualified for the final.

Women’s Shot Put

Manpreet Kaur qualified for the final.

Aquatics

Kushagra Rawat and Advait Page qualified for the men’s 1500m freestyle final.

Athletics

Dutte Chand failed to qualify for semis. She finished 4th in the women’s 100m heats.

Boxing

Rohit Tokas qualified for the quarterfinal in the men’s welterweight category.

Women’s Discuss Throw Final

Seema Punia and Navjot Kaur finished 5th and 8th respectively.
