‘What’s disappointing is the personal attacks’ – Babar Azam Responds To His Critics Ahead Of The England T20I Series
On 20 September 2022, Pakistan are kicking off their seven-match T20I series at home against England. In the recently concluded Asia Cup, Pakistan had a great journey. But, they lost in the final against Sri Lanka. However, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam did not have a great tournament as an individual batter.
In six matches of the tournament, Babar scored 68 runs at an average of 11.33. So, this series is going to be a huge one for the Pakistan skipper ahead of the 20-20 World Cup. But, recently, former cricketer, Aaqib Javed criticized him regarding his slow strike rate in T20Is. Now, ahead of the England series, Babar Azam responded to his critics.
“Former players can of course air their opinions, but what’s disappointing is the personal attacks.” – Babar Azam
While speaking in the pre-match press conference, Babar Azam said that former players can share their opinions. But, it gets hurt when it becomes personal. Babar said: “Former players can of course air their opinions, but what’s disappointing is the personal attacks. Former players have been through it and know just how much pressure and responsibility there is upon us. I personally don’t bother about such statements. It makes no difference to me.”
He added the importance of series amid his poor run with the bat in recent times. “This series is important to me personally, and I’ll try to get my form back. To come out of a bad patch, it’s best not to overthink and keep things simple. The main thing is to keep believing in yourself. I know I’ve done well in the past and will do well in the future. Sometimes it’ll go well, and others not. People will talk regardless of how well you do, but it’s best to ignore all that.” Babar Azam concluded.
Speaking about Aaqib Javed’s statement, he said: “When we play against Karachi and we have a total of 180 or so, we have never tried too hard or wanted too badly to get Babar Azam out. Because he plays at his own pace and the required rate keeps increasing. Rizwan is also similar. No doubt he played very well in the Pakistan T20 League, but when these two play together, then you have two performers of the same type.”
