The 20-20 World Cup 2022 has already given a few shocking matches in the two days since its commencement. This time it was Scotland who stunned everyone with their brilliance against West Indies as they beat them by 42 runs. The Scottish players had a brilliant outing with the ball that secured them their first win of the competition.

West Indies won the toss and went with the obvious choice to bowl. Scotland got off to a good start, with the openers putting up an important partnership in the powerplay. In the powerplay, George Munsey and Michael Jones (20) combined for 54 runs, but the latter was quickly dismissed after that.

While other batters did not contribute much, Munsey continued to cruise along. He eventually completed his half-century in the 17th over and went to play an unbeaten knock of 66 runs in 53 balls. The team ended with the figures of 160/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Alzarri Joseph and Obed McCoy each took two wickets for the West Indies, while Odean Smith took one.

While the target did not seem too big for the Men in Maroon, it turned out to be a nightmare of a chase for them.Β  Scotland produced the breakthrough wicket in the third over of the game and followed it up with another in the sixth. The openers, Kyle Mayers (20) and Evin Lewis (14), were dismissed within the powerplay itself.

The bowlers continued to strike wickets at regular intervals after that, and the batters were unable to put together any significant partnerships. Jason Holder’s 38-run knock in 33 balls provided some hope, but it wasn’t enough.

The Windies were eventually all-out for 118 with 9 balls to spare, handing Scotland a 42-run victory. The Scottish bowlers played like a complete unit, with Mark Watt leading the way for the team. He picked up three wickets in his four-over spell, while Brad Wheal and Michael Leask each took two. Josh Davey and Safyaan Sharif also took one wicket each in the match.
