‘At least better than Pant’- Twitter gives mixed reactions as Sanju Samson fails to score big against New Zealand in first ODI
After a long wait, Sanju Samson was included in the playing XI for the ongoing first ODI against New Zealand. Since the start of India’s tour of New Zealand, a lot of fans have been wanting to see him play. However, in two out of three T20Is played recently, Samson was ignored. This decision faced the ire of the fans with out-of-form Rishabh Pant getting more opportunities.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing first ODI between the two teams, both Pant and Samson were included in the playing XI. Talking about the left-hander, he got a great chance of scoring big runs as the openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubhman Gill provided a great platform. However, Pant’s poor form in T20Is continued in the ongoing game. After playing 13 dot balls during his 23-ball 15, he chopped the ball onto the stumps.
On the other hand, Sanson played a decent knock but couldn’t score big. After coming out to bat after the fall of the fourth wicket, he had a great opportunity to score a big half-century and stay at the crease till the end. However, he could only manage 36 off 38 balls. Notably, this was a better inning from Pant as the Keralite didn’t play too many dots.
However, the fans feel that he should have made the most of the start he got.
This is how Twitter reacted
Sanju Samson 36 (38) wastes yet another golden opportunity. Agreed that 36 is good in comparison to Pant etc but that is where Samson fans go wrong. Samson needs an innings that defines him & not as a comparison to Pant or any other batter #NZvsIND #SanjuSamson

Pant had some good knocks in recent past but he need to be consistent. And we all know what a Great talent Sanju Samson is. And no.6 is fixed for Hardik Pandya. So the hustle and tussle is for no. 4 & 5.

Talking about the game, the Men In Blue amassed 306/7 after being asked to bat first. Openers, stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill provided a great start as they put together 124 runs. Both players scored fifties but failed to score a hundred. Shreyas Iyer continued where he left off against South Africa in the ODIs last month as he scored another fifty. Washinton Sundar scored an unbeaten 37 off 16 balls.
