Shahid Afridi appointed Interim Chief Selector in PCB, other former players offered other roles

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has been appointed as the chief selector of Pakistan’s men’s team on an interim basis. Recently, Pakistan Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, also PCB’s patron-in-chief, removed Ramiz Raja as the chairperson of the board. The decision came predominantly in the wake of the national side’s clean sweep at home against England. The 1992 World Cup winner was replaced by Najam Sethi, who has served in the post before.
After his appointment, chief selector, Mohammad Wasim has been fired. The latter has been replaced by Afridi. Apart from the 2009 20-20 World Cup winner, some other former players have been given other roles too. Players such as Abdul Razzaq and Rao Ifthikhar Anjum are also part of the selection committee. For the unversed, the latter was part of the team in the 2007 ODI World Cup. The Green Brigade crashed out in the first round after losing to Ireland and West Indies.

The famine in cricket will come to an end: Najam Sethi
Recently, hours before his appointment, Sethi took to Twitter and made various announcements related to the PCB. He started by saying that the old system of the game will be back. For the unversed, various department teams will return to the domestic cricketing system in Pakistan according to the 74-year-old.
“The cricket regime headed by Ramiz Raja is no more,” Sethi had tweeted earlier this week. “The 2014 PCB constitution stands restored. The Management Committee will work tirelessly to revive first class cricket. Thousands of cricketers will be employed again. The famine in cricket will come to an end.”
