‘I thought I should have done…’ – Babar Azam reveals why he tweeted ‘This shall too pass’ for Virat Kohli
In July last year, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam put out a well-wishing tweet for former India captain, Virat Kohli. Not to forget, the latter was going through a rut with the bat. From the Indian T20 League 2022 till India’s tour of England last year, Kohli wasn’t able to get enough runs as he would have liked. Meanwhile, at the end of England’s tour, Azam wrote “This too shall pass. Stay strong,” Babar had then tweeted along with a photo of him and Kohli.

The 2008 U19 World Cup winning captain replied by saying ‘Thank you. Keep shining and rising. Wish you all the best.”

It was difficult for Virat Kohli: Babar Azam
Meanwhile, Azam opened up on the incident months after the incident. He was speaking with a famous Pakistani sports presenter, Zainab Abbas on Apex Council Digital Insider. The former started by saying that as a player, anyone can go through such a phase (referring to Kohli’s poor form). The right-hander added that he had thought about his tweet might become helpful to others.
“As a sportsperson, anyone can go through such a time,” said Babar.
“At that time I thought maybe if I tweet it might give someone help and confidence. See, as a player, you try to back every sportsman in a difficult time.
“It is in difficult times when you get to know what you are thinking about others. At that time, I thought I should have done that and maybe something positive will come out of it. Something which can be a plus point.”
