‘Aakhir wo din aa he Gaya’ – Fans show joy as Gill replaces KL Rahul for 3rd Test vs Australia

The third Test of the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy has already been in the headlines for quite some time now. Once Rohit won the toss and announced the team, fans showed their joy to see the young and classy Shubman Gill replacing the inconsistent KL Rahul in the line-up for the Test.

India have already retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after winning the first two Tests of the series comfortably. A clean sweep over the mighty Australians looks on the cards after the demolition in the first two Tests. The confidence in the Australian camp is also low with some key stars missing the rest of the series.

How have Gill and Rahul fared in the recent matches that they have played?

Shubman Gill, the Indian youngster, has been added to the starting lineup in place of KL Rahul. Rahul, who served as the deputy to skipper Rohit Sharma for the first two Test matches, only amassed 38 runs throughout this torrid time. In his last seven innings, the Lucknow captain has recorded scores of 22, 23, 10, 2, 20, 17 and 1. Rahul last reached a Test half-century against South Africa in Johannesburg in January 2022. In December 2021, he scored his last Test century against the same opposition.

Shubman, on the contrary, has 736 runs with one tonne and four half-centuries in 13 Test matches. He has been in excellent form and just got a double-digit ODI century. Among the select few Indian players with a tonne of experience across all forms is him.

The playing XI for India has seen two alterations since the second Test, according to skipper Rohit Sharma. He made it clear that Shubman Gill got in the team instead of KL Rahul while Mohammed Shami was rested to make room for Umesh Yadav. A win for India in this Test will guarantee them a place in final of the Test championship in June at the Oval
