Jasprit Bumrah has not played in a cricket match in seven months. The senior India pacer has been sidelined with a serious back injury and will likely be sidelined for a fair amount of time following surgery.

As per a recent report by The Indian Express, Bumrah’s recovery is one of the top agendas up the Indian Cricket Board’s plate, and the board is unwilling to take any risk. In truth, only a few board officials know the full depth of Bumrah’s injury. National Cricket Academy director VVS Laxman has been given the sole duty of monitoring the India pacer’s recuperation.

Some of the team’s well-known cricketers have been injured frequently for India. While Shreyas Iyer is expected to undergo surgery for a back problem that has plagued him, Rishabh Pant is out indefinitely with the same condition. Team India is already in jeopardy after adding a few more months without Bumrah. Thus, no one is in a hurry to have Bumrah return, even if he won’t be able to play cricket for a few more months. According to additional reports, Bumrah’s back is in extremely poor condition, and one poor decision could potentially end his professional career.

“Not many in the Indian Cricket Board are aware of his injury. Only VVS Laxman (NCA director) has been assigned to speak to him and the physios. Even the selection committee has been told that they will be informed about Bumrah’s actual injury and his rehab details in due course,” reported Indian Express. “His back is in a fragile state right now. Besides, last time Bumrah’s return was hastened. Since he hadn’t fully recovered, he had discomfort while bowling on his return. This time, we are more conservative as a wrong call might even result in a career-threatening injury,” the source added.
