‘Ye bahut marega is bar’ – Jofra Archer seen hitting sixes in nets ahead of Indian T20 League 2023
The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League is just a few hours away and the franchises have started gearing up for the upcoming season. The Mumbai franchise will be looking to go ahead of the disastrous season in 2022 where the five-time champions finished at the 10th position in the points table by winning only four out of their 14 league matches.
Mumbai will miss their ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming season. The 29-year-old has been away from cricketing action since September 2022 due to lower back problems. He recently underwent surgery due to which he will be out of action for almost six more months.
However, the good news for the Mumbai franchise is that Jofra Archer has joined their squad ahead of the upcoming season. The right-arm pacer from England was bought by Mumbai in 2022 for INR 8 crores. However, he missed the entire season due to a back issue. The 27-year-old will be the pace spearhead for Mumbai in the upcoming season in absence of Bumrah.
Will Archer be promoted up in the batting order?
Along with his bowling, Archer can also play the role of a handy batter coming down the order. He has an impressive strike rate of 157.26 in the Indian T20 League which shows his contribution as a batter in death overs. Recently, Archer was also seen hitting sixes during the practice session in Mumbai ahead of the upcoming season, which also means that the franchise can promote him up the order to bring more depth to their batting lineup. This can make him a crucial player for the franchise as both bowler and a batter.
The tournament will kickstart on March 31st with an opening match between Gujarat and Chennai at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Mumbai will begin their 2023 campaign against Bangalore on April 2nd at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
Let’s have a look at the squad for Mumbai for the upcoming season:
Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Dewald Brevis, Tilak Varma, Jofra Archer, Tim David, Mohd Arshad Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Hrithik Shokeen, Arjun Tendulkar, Tristan Stubbs, Kumar Kartikeya, Jason Behrendorff, Akash Madhwal, Cameron Green, Jhye Richardson, Piyush Chawla, Duan Jansen, Vishnu Vinod, Shams Mulani, Nehal Wadhera, Raghav Goyal.
