‘Argentina wale VARdrid pe humesha bhari’ – Twitter errupts as Taty Castellanos nets four in Girona vs Real Madrid encounter in LaLiga
Tuesday’s surprising 4-2 triumph over Real Madrid was spearheaded by Castellanos, who scored twice in each half to bring his season total to 11. He is currently tearing up La Liga after dominating MLS on the way to winning a championship with New York City FC. His four goals set a top-flight record for most goals against Real Madrid in a single game since 1947.
“It’s the dream night,” he told Movistar+ after the game. “We are playing against one of the best teams in the world, and I could not have imagined that [I would score four]. I will savour it with our supporters, my family, my relatives in Argentina, in Mendoza, who always support me. Between MLS and here, these are two different things. Scoring against Real Madrid was already a dream, so scoring four goals, I let you imagine. I’m very happy for the victory, too; we needed it to get away from the relegation zone and reach a little higher,” he added.
‘We apologise, but we must look ahead’ – Carlo Ancelotti
Castellanos has received accolades from Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola, who has seen him win an MLS championship at NYCFC. Girona is a member of the City Football Group. The forward, 24 years old, appears to have a promising future. As City Football Group elevates its standing in Spain, Girona, which is currently 11 points clear of the relegation zone, may want to retain Castellanos for the 2023–24 season.
“It’s tough because when you lose, it must be tough,” the Madrid boss told reporters. “The match was bad in defence. And that was the key because we did well on the ball, especially at the beginning. But we were not convincing in the duels. We were caught in two counter-attacks, and from there, everything became more difficult. “I understand that the fans are hurt; we apologise. We are also hurt. But the fans know that we will be fine in the cup final, as well as in the semi-final (against City). It’s harder to say today, but this match does not represent Madrid. We apologise, but we must look ahead,” he concluded.
