‘Vacation par gaye hai, khelne thodi na’ – Fans react as India lose to West Indies in second ODI by 6 wickets
After winning the first ODI of the series by five wickets, India locked horns with West Indies in the second match of the series on Saturday, July 29 at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, in Barbados. West Indies won the match by six wickets and equal the three-match ODI series 1-1. The Windies skipper, Shai Hope was awarded the Player of the Match award for his match-winning performance. He scored unbeaten 63 runs off 80 balls with two fours and two sixes in his innings.
If we talk about the match, the hosts won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Men in Blue, while batting first, were bundled out for 181 runs. They were able to play only 40.5 overs in their innings. The highest scorer for the side was their opener and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who amassed 55 runs from 55 balls before going back to the pavilion. He slammed six fours and a six in his innings.
The pick of the bowlers for the Caribbean were Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd, who snapped three wickets each in their respective spells of 9.5 overs and 8 overs. Where on one side Motie conceded 36 runs in his spell, Shephard conceded 37 runs and bowled one maiden over in his spell. Two wickets were grabbed by right-arm seamer, Alzari Joseph, and one wicket each was bagged by Jayden Seales and Yannic Cariah.
I am pretty sure we can achieve that: Shai Hope
West Indies chased down a mere total of 182 runs in their 36.4 overs. Keacy Carty scored unbeaten 48 runs from 65 balls, which included four fours in his innings. Carty, along with Hope, built up an unbeaten partnership of 91 runs. For the visitors, Shardul Thakur took three wickets in his spell of eight overs where he conceded 42 runs in his spell.
“I am happy, when I get a fifty, when I get a hundred and when the team wins. You got to find ways to score quickly on that wicket, especially against a quality bowling attack like India. Very satisfied. We got one win, got to win the next game to take the series. The guys are going to come hard again,” Hope was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.
“We keep speaking about the attitude, and today we displayed that. We need to replicate that and need to be more consistent with the bat and ball. Complete performance I must say, the surface was challenging, the bowlers and batters did well. We want to be on the winning side and if we tick all the boxes, I am pretty sure we can achieve that,” the right-hand batter asserted.
